The Pterocarpus Swamp Forest is an Ecological Jewel in the Caribbean

The Pterocarpus Forest is the largest known swamp forest in Puerto Rico. It is 51.67 “cuerdas” in size, serves as habitat to 44 species of flora and 52 species of fauna, of which 13 are considered endemic. Palmas del Mar offers a 1000 foot boardwalk for you to enjoy the habitat and is excellent for bird watching. The commitment shown by Palmas del Mar residents to the protection of this ecological jewel will preserve these important resources for present and future generations, not only within this community, but for everyone on the Island.
